WV Powerball – Powerball WV
The West Virginia Lottery is 1 of 47 US State Lotteries & District Lotteries that offer the Powerball game – in this case the WV Powerball – as part of its overall portfolio of lottery games.
Powerball is a Multi-State USA Lottery that is run by the Multi State Lottery Association – MUSL – and is one of the largest lottery games in the world – having produced a record jackpot of US$ 1.58 BILLION in January 2016. The West Virginia Lottery Powerball works in the same way as the Powerball game works in all the States and Districts in the US that offer the game.
Jackpots start off at US$ 40 Million and ROLLOVER after each draw when the top prize is not won – increasing in size by at least US$ 10 Million each time – making for some enormous jackpot figures.
6 numbers are drawn in total for the WV Powerball game from 2 separate drawing machines – firstly 5 numbers from 59 white balls are drawn and then 1 number (the Powerball) from 35 red balls.
Draws for the West Virginia Lottery Powerball take place twice every week on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10.59pm EST.

POWERPLAY…

West Virginia Powerball – Record Jackpots
The largest ever West Virginia Lottery Powerball jackpot won to date has been the incredible US$ 314.9 Million won by Jack Whittaker on December 25th 2002. Jack had purchased his West Virginia Powerball ticket at C&L Super Serve in Hurricane.
The second biggest West Virginia Lottery Powerball jackpot won so far has been the massive US$ 276.3 Million won back on March 15th 2008 by 8 workers from the Mongolia Tax Office who had bought their ticket from Paula’s in Westover. They took the cash option of US$ 139.4 Million.

The fifth biggest West Virginia Lottery Powerball jackpot to be won to date has been the US$ 30.6 Million prize won by Robert Cogar back on June 8th 2002. Robert had bought his Powerball ticket at Cottrell’s County Store in Morgantown.
West Virginia Powerball – How Prizes are Paid
If you have won a West Virginia Powerball jackpot – you will be able to claim your prize as either a cash lump sum or as an annuity payment – you will need to make this life-changing choice within 60 days of making your claim.
If you choose the annuity option – your West Virginia Powerball winnings will be paid to you in 30 installments over a 29 year period.
For all prizes on the WV Lottery Powerball – you will have up to 180 days from the date of the draw taking place – to make your claim before your Powerball ticket will become invalid.
