WA Mega Millions – Mega Millions WA
The Washington Lottery is 1 of 46 US State Lotteries & District Lotteries that offer the Mega Millions game – in this case the Washington Mega Millions – as part of its overall portfolio of lottery games.
The Mega Millions is a Multi-State USA Lottery game that is run and operated by the Mega Millions Consortium – who administer and syndicate it across the U.S.A. and is one of the largest world lottery lottery games – having produced a world record jackpot of a huge US$ 656 MILLION in March 2012. This huge jackpot was shared between 3 Mega Millions winning tickets from Illinois, Kansas and Maryland and stands as the 2nd biggest jackpot ever won in the history of jackpot lottery games around the world.
The very first Mega Millions draw took place on May 17th 2002 with 6 USA Lottery companies taking part who were all members of the growing Mega Millions Consortium.
The game had changed its name and format from the Big Game which had first started back on August 31st 1996. Upon this change – 2 further State Lottery companies joined with many more soon to follow suit.
The Washington State Mega Millions was first sold back on September 2002 – the WA State Lottery having become the 10th USA Lottery member to join the Mega Millions consortium.
Washington Mega Millions – How it Works
The Washington State Mega Millions works in exactly the same way as the Mega Millions game works in all the States and Districts in the US that offer the game.
Jackpots start off at US$ 40 MILLION and ROLLOVER after each draw when the top prize is not won – making for some enormous jackpot figures.
6 numbers are drawn in total for the Mega Millions Washington – from 2 separate drawing machines – firstly 5 numbers are drawn from 70 white balls and then 1 number (the MEGAball) is drawn from 25 gold balls.
Draws for the Washington State Mega Millions take place twice every week on Tuesdays and Fridays at 8.00pm PST (11.00pm EST).
MEGAPLIER…
Many USA Lottery companies that offer the Mega Millions game also offer the option of playing using a Mega Millions MEGAPLIER.
This is where in addition to the 6 Mega Millions numbers drawn a further number is drawn – the MEGAPLIER number – using a Random Number Generator…
This separate MEGAPLIER prize multiplier number drawn will be either 2, 3, 4 or 5 – and is there to give players of the MegaMillions a chance to increase their winnings on all levels of the prize structure apart from the MegaMillions jackpot itself.
MEGAPLIER enables players to multiply their winnings on these levels by 2x, 3x, 4x or 5x – greatly increasing the amount they can walk away with.
If, for example, a player matches the 5 main Mega Millions numbers playing with the MEGAPLIER add-on – and a MEGAPLIER number of 5 is drawn – the second tier Mega Millions prize of US$ 1 MILLION would be multiplied by x5 and they could win US$ 5 MILLION.

Washington Mega Millions – How to Play
The aim when you are playing is to correctly select as many of the Mega Millions winning prize numbers as possible – and with a total of 9 different ways in which you can win on the Mega Millions Washington – you have a great chance of winning a prize.

Washington Mega Millions – Record Jackpots
The biggest jackpot win on the Washington Mega Millions to date has been the massive US$ 190 Million won on January 4th 2011 by Ephrata couple Jim and Carolyn McCullar. This was half of the huge US$ 380 Million jackpot on offer and was split with a winner from the State of Idaho.
The 2nd biggest Washington Mega Millions win so far was won by Pat and Dick Warren from Hoquiam on November 8th 2002 when the jackpot reached US$ 93 Million.
The 3rd largest jackpot to be won on the Washington State Mega Millions is the US$ 55 Million won by Sommay Rattanakone and his wife Xia from North Bend on October 17th 2006.
WA Mega Millions – How Prizes are Paid
If you have won a Washington State Mega Millions jackpot – you will be able to claim your prize as either a cash lump sum or as an annuity payment – you will need to make this important choice within 60 days of the date of your Washington Mega Millions claim.
If you choose the annuity option – your Washington Mega Millions winnings will be paid to you annually over a 30 year period.
You will have 180 days from the date of the draw to claim your Washington Mega Millions prize before your ticket becomes invalid.
If your win on the Mega Millions Washington is up to US$ 600 – you will be able to claim your winnings at any of the Washington Lottery retailers or by mail to the Washington Lottery Headquarters in Olympia.
