South Carolina Powerball – SC Power Ball
The South Carolina Lottery is 1 of 47 US State Lotteries & District Lotteries that offer the Powerball game – in this case the SC Powerball – as part of its overall portfolio of lottery games.
Powerball is a Multi-State USA Lottery that is run by the Multi State Lottery Association – MUSL – and is one of the largest lottery games in the world having produced a massive record jackpot of US$ 1.58 BILLION in January 2016. This huge sum is the largest lottery jackpot ever to be won to date in the history of world jackpot lottery games more than doubling the record Mega Millions jackpot of US$ 656 MILLION created in March 2012.
The very first Powerball draw took place on April 22nd 1992 with 16 USA Lottery companies – who were all members of the MUSL – taking part when the game changed its format and name from Lotto America which had started on February 13th 1988.
South Carolina Powerball lottery tickets were first sold back on October 9th 2002 when the SC Lottery became the 25th member to join the MUSL – Multi State Lottery Association – who run & syndicate the game right across the United States of America.
SC Powerball – How it Works
The South Carolina Powerball works in the same way as the Powerball game works in all the States and Districts in the US that offer the game.
Jackpots start off at US$ 40 Million and ROLLOVER after each draw when the top prize is not won – increasing in size by at least US$ 10 Million each time – making for some enormous jackpot figures.
6 numbers are drawn in total for the Powerball SC game from 2 separate drawing machines – firstly 5 numbers from 59 white balls are drawn and then 1 number (the Powerball) from 35 red balls.
Draws for the Powerball South Carolina take place twice every week on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10.59pm EST.
There is also a Powerball prize multiplier facility available when playing that dramatically increases the size of a Powerball win and is called Powerball POWERPLAY...

The Powerball POWERPLAY option is a fixed prize multiplier and will automatically increase the Powerball win to at least double the original amount – and is there to give players of the SC Lottery Powerball a chance to increase their winnings on all levels of the prize structure apart from the South Carolina Power Ball jackpot itself.
Playing with the Powerball POWER PLAY facility – you are able to multiply your winnings on these levels by 2x, 3x or 4x – greatly increasing the amount you will take home with you.

SC Powerball – How to Play
The aim when playing is to correctly select as many Powerball winning numbers as possible – and with 9 different ways in which you can win on the South Carolina Powerball Lottery – you have a great chance of winning a prize.
There are generally 4 ways you can play the SC Powerball…
1. Pick 5 of your own main (white ball) numbers from 1 to 59 plus your 1 Power Ball (red ball) number from 1 to 35.

POWERPLAY…
For just an extra dollar – you can choose to increase your SC Lottery Powerball winnings on all levels except the jackpot – by adding the Powerball POWER PLAY option when playing the Powerball South Carolina.
If your chosen SC Powerball Lottery numbers match the Powerball winning numbers on any of these 8 prize levels – you immediately increase your winnings by either 2, 3 or 4 times – depending on what South Carolina Power Ball prize you have won.

SC Powerball – Record Jackpots
The biggest jackpot ever won so far on the SC Powerball has been the incredible US$ 399.4 Mllion that was won by an anonymous winner from Lexington on September 18th 2013.
The 2nd biggest South Carolina Powerball jackpot win to date has been the US$ 259.9 Million top prize that was won by Solomon Jackson Jr. back on August 19th 2009.
The 3rd highest SC Powerball jackpot prize to be won was the US$ 110.75 Million won by husband and wife – Norman and Deanna Shue – from Concord, NC, on December 31st 2003. This was the 2nd ever South Carolina Powerball jackpot prize and the Shue’s decided to take the cash option of US$ 60.1 Million.
The 4th highest SC Powerball jackpot prize to be won was the US$ 88.7 Million won by husband and wife – Anthony and Monica Wilson of Charlotte, NC – on May 7th 2003. This was South Carolina’s first ever Powerball jackpot prize and the Wilson’s decided to take the cash option of US$ 48.8 Million.
The 1st South Carolina resident to win a South Carolina Power Ball jackpot prize was Jonathan Vargas – only 19 years of age. Jonathan is also the youngest person to win an SC Powerball jackpot in South Carolina Education Lottery history and he won US$ 35.3 Million on May 17th 2008 – deciding on the cash option of a healthy US$ 17.3 Million.
SC Powerball – How Prizes are Paid
If you have won an SC Lottery Powerball jackpot – you will be able to claim your prize as either a cash lump sum or as an annuity payment – you must make this choice within 60 days of the draw – and if you choose the annuity option, your SC Powerball winnings will be paid to you in 30 payments over a 29 year period.
For all prizes on the SC Powerball you will have 180 days from the date printed on your ticket to make your claim before your Powerball ticket will become invalid.
If your win on the SC Powerball is up to US$ 500 – you will be able to claim your winnings at any SC Lottery retailer.
If you’ve had a win of between US$ 501 and US$ 100,000 on the SC Powerball – you will be able to claim your prize by mail using an SCEducationLottery claim form.
If you have had a win of more than US$ 100,000 on the SC Powerball – you can claim your prize in person at one of the SC Education Lottery offices in Columbia, Greenville or Mt.Pleasant.
