Maine State Lottery Powerball
The Maine State Lottery is 1 of 47 US State Lotteries & District Lotteries that offer the Powerball game – in this case the Maine Powerball – as part of its overall portfolio of lottery games.
Powerball is a Multi-State USA Lottery that is run by the Multi State Lottery Association – MUSL – and is one of the largest lottery games in the world having produced the biggest ever jackpot the world has seen on January 13th 2016 with an outstanding US$ 1.586 BILLION – more than doubling the existing record Mega Millions jackpot.

The Maine Powerball began operations on July 31st 2004 when the Maine State Lottery rejoined the Multi State Lottery Association (MUSL) – having already been a previous MUSL member from July 18th 1990 to April 18th 1992.
Powerball Maine – How it Works
The Powerball Maine works in the same way as the Powerball game works in all the States and Districts in the US that offer it.
Jackpots start off at US$ 40 Million and rollover after each draw when the top prize is not won – increasing in size by a minimum of US$ 10 Million each time – making for some huge jackpot figures.
6 numbers are drawn in total for the Maine State Powerball game from 2 separate drawing machines – firstly 5 numbers are drawn from 69 white balls and then 1 number (the Powerball) is drawn from 26 red balls.
Draws for the Maine State Lottery Powerball take place twice every week on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10.59pm EST.

The aim when playing is to correctly select as many Powerball winning numbers as possible – and with 9 different ways in which you can win on the Maine State Lottery Powerball – you have a great chance of winning a prize.
There are 4 main ways that you can play the Powerball Maine…
1. Pick 5 of your own main (white ball) numbers from 1 to 69 plus your 1 Power Ball (red ball) number from 1 to 26.
2. Pick 5 of your own main (white ball) numbers from 1 to 69 and use the Quick Pick option to let the computer choose your Power Ball (red ball) number for you from 1 to 26 – using a computer powered random number generator.

POWERPLAY…
For just an extra dollar – you can choose to increase your Maine Powerball Lottery winnings on all levels except the jackpot – by adding the Powerball Power Play option when you are playing the Maine Powerball.

Powerball Maine – Record Jackpots
As yet there have been no jackpot winners of the Powerball Lottery in Maine State. However – there were 4 Powerball 2nd prize winners of the Maine Powerball in 2010.
The biggest win on the Powerball Maine to date has been the very welcome US$ 600,000 won on June 23rd 2010. The lucky winner correctly selected the 5 main Powerball winning numbers and trebled their 2nd prize win of US$ 200,000 by playing with the Powerball Power Play option.
Prior to this a jackpot of US$ 3.1 Million was won on the Lotto America – the predecessor of Powerball – by Peter Finlay from Cape Elizabeth, ME in February 1991.
Powerball Maine – How Prizes are Paid
If you have won a Maine Powerball jackpot – you will be able to claim your prize as either a cash lump sum or as an annuity payment – you will need to make this choice within 60 days of making your claim.
If you choose the annuity option – your Maine Powerball winnings will be paid to you in 30 installments over a 29 year period.
For all prizes on the Powerball Maine – you will have 365 days from the date of the draw taking place – to make your claim before your Powerball ticket will become invalid.
You can claim your Maine Powerball winnings either at a Maine Lottery retailer, or by mailing your ticket with a claim form to the Maine State Lottery headquarters in Hallowell, ME – or by visiting the Maine State Lottery Headquarters in person.
