Ohio Mega Millions – Mega Millions Ohio
The Ohio Lottery is 1 of 46 US State Lotteries & District Lotteries that offer the Mega Millions game – in this case the Ohio Lottery Mega Millions – as part of its overall portfolio of lottery games.
The Mega Millions is a Multi-State USA Lottery that is run and operated by the Mega Millions Consortium – who administer and syndicate the game across the USA and is one of the largest lottery games in the world – having produced a huge world record jackpot of a huge US$ 656 MILLION in March 2012. The very first Mega Millions draw took place on May 17th 2002 with 6 USA Lottery companies taking part who were all members of the Mega Millions Consortium.
The game had changed its name and format from the Big Game which had first started back on August 31st 1996. Upon this change – 2 further State Lottery companies joined with many more to follow.
Lottery tickets for the Ohio Mega Millions were first sold back on May 17th 2002 taking part in the very first Mega Millions draw – the Ohio Lottery having become the 9th member of the Mega Millions consortium upon its change of status from being the Big Game consortium.
Ohio Lottery Mega Millions – How it Works
The Ohio Lottery Mega Millions works in exactly the same way as the Mega Millions game works in all the States and Districts in the US that offer the game.
Jackpots start off at US$ 40 MILLION and ROLLOVER after each draw when the top prize is not won – making for some enormous jackpot figures.
6 numbers are drawn in total for the Mega Millions Ohio – from 2 separate drawing machines – firstly 5 numbers from 70 white balls are drawn and then 1 number (the MEGAball) from 25 gold balls.
Draws for the Ohio Lottery Mega Millions take place twice every week on Tuesdays and Fridays at 11.00pm EST.
MEGAPLIER…
Many USA Lottery companies that offer the Mega Millions game also offer the option of playing using a Mega Millions MEGAPLIER.
This is where in addition to the 6 Mega Millions numbers drawn a further number is drawn – the MEGAPLIER number – using a Random Number Generator…
This separate MEGAPLIER prize multiplier number drawn will be either 2, 3, 4 or 5 – and is there to give players of the MegaMillions a chance to increase their winnings on all levels of the prize structure apart from the MegaMillions jackpot itself.
MEGAPLIER enables players to multiply their winnings on these levels by 2x, 3x, 4x or 5x – greatly increasing the amount they can walk away with.

Ohio Lottery Mega Millions – Record Jackpots
The biggest ever Ohio Lottery Mega Millions jackpot to be won to date has been the US$ 270 Million won by the M & H Blind Trust on February 28th 2006. This was the 7th Ohio Mega Millions jackpot to be won and the biggest to date in Ohio Lottery history.
The 2nd highest jackpot to be won to date on the Ohio Mega Millions so far has been the US$ 265 Million claimed by the WHJ Trust on April 18th 2006. The Mega Millions winning numbers for this draw were – 13, 14, 25, 34, 50 with a MEGA Ball of 6.
The 3rd biggest jackpot to be won on the Ohio Lottery Mega Millions to date occurred on December 12th 2008 when 14 employees from the City of Piqua and a relative of a city worker won US$ 207 Million having purchased an auto-pick ticket from a Kroger store in Piqua.
There have been numerous other jackpots won over the years on the Mega Millions in Ohio in addition to these huge prizes.
Ohio Mega Millions – How Prizes are Paid
If you have won an Ohio Lottery Mega Millions jackpot – you will be able to claim your prize as either a cash lump sum or as an annuity payment – you will need to make this important choice within 60 days of the date of your claim.
If you choose the annuity option – your Ohio Lottery Mega Millions winnings will be paid to you annually over a 30 year period.
For all prizes on the OH MegaMillions – you will have 180 days from the date of the draw taking place – to make your claim before your Ohio Mega Millions ticket will become invalid.
If your win on the Ohio Lottery Mega Millions is up to US$ 599 – you will be able to claim your winnings at any of the Ohio Lottery retailers.
