New York Lottery Powerball – Powerball NY
The New York Lottery is 1 of 47 US State Lotteries & District Lotteries that offer the Powerball game – in this case the Powerball New York – as part of its overall portfolio of lottery games.
Powerball is a Multi-State USA Lottery that is run & syndicated across the USA by the Multi State Lottery Association – MUSL – and is one of the largest lottery games in the world having produced a record jackpot of an incredible US$ 1.58 BILLION in January 2016. This huge amount is the largest lottery jackpot ever won to date in the history of jackpot lottery games around the world having well beaten the Mega Millions record of the time which stood at US$ 656 MILLION from March 2012.
The very first Powerball draw took place on April 22nd 1992 with 16 USA Lottery companies – who were all members of the MUSL – taking part after the game changed its format and name from Lotto America which had originally started on February 13th 1988.
The New York Powerball lottery first began operations back on January 31st 2010 when the Mega Millions consortium – of which the New York Lottery is a member – entered into a cross-selling agreement with the MUSL – allowing the sales of Powerball across Mega Millions States and Mega Millions across Powerball States.
NY Powerball – How it Works
The New York Powerball works in the same way as the Powerball game works in all the States and Districts in the US that offer the game.
Jackpots start off at US$ 40 Million and ROLLOVER after each draw when the top prize is not won – increasing in size by at least US$ 10 Million each time – making for some huge jackpot figures.
6 numbers are drawn in total for the New York Powerball game from 2 separate drawing machines – firstly 5 numbers are drawn from 59 white balls are and then 1 number (the Powerball) is drawn from 35 red balls.
Draws for the Powerball New York take place twice every week on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10.59pm EST.
There is also a Powerball prize multiplier facility available when playing that dramatically increases the size of a NY Powerball win and is called Powerball POWERPLAY...

The aim when playing is to correctly select as many Powerball winning numbers as possible – and with 9 different ways in which you can win on the New York Powerball – you have a great chance of winning a prize.
There are principally 4 ways you can play the NY Powerball…
1. Pick 5 of your own main (white ball) numbers from 1 to 59 plus your 1 Power Ball (red ball) number from 1 to 35.

POWERPLAY…
For just an extra dollar – you can choose to increase your New York Powerball winnings on all levels except the jackpot – by adding the Powerball POWER PLAY option when you are playing the Powerball New York.
If your chosen New York Powerball numbers match the Powerball winning numbers on any of these 8 prize levels – you immediately increase your winnings by either 2, 3 or 4 times – depending on what New York Power Ball prize you have won.

NY Powerball – Record Jackpots
The biggest jackpot to have been won so far on the Powerball New York has been the US$ 201.9 Million won on June 1st 2011 by the "1937 Flatbush Avenue Dodgers LLC".
These lucky winners were a group of 20 employees of a Costco warehouse in Melville who had correctly predicted the winning Powerball numbers of: 8, 18, 38, 46, 56 with a Power Ball of 31.
The 2nd biggest New York Powerball win to date occured the same year when a cool US$ 122.1 Million was won by Stephen Kirwin from Purling, Greene County on January 22nd 2011.
The 3rd largest win on the Powerball NY to date was won by the Tara Ramirez Case Park LLC on February 25th 2012 and was a jackpot amounting to US$ 70 Million. Tara Ramirez comes from Hartsdale in Westchester County and had formed a limited liability company – Case Park LLC – in order to receive her prize.
The 4th largest jackpot win to be achieved on the Powerball NY so far has been the US$ 48.8 Million won Christmas Day 2010 by Wilton, Saratoga County couple Jeffrey and Christine Pintuff.
NY Powerball – How Prizes are Paid
If you have won a New York Powerball jackpot – you will be able to claim your prize as either a cash lump sum or as an annuity payment – you will need to make this choice within 60 days of the date of your claim.
If you choose the annuity option – your New York Powerball winnings will be paid to you in 30 installments over a 29 year period.
If your win on the Powerball New York is up to US$ 600 – you will be able to claim your winnings at any of the NewYorkLottery retailers or by mail.
If you’ve had a win of US$ 601 to US$ 500,000 on the Powerball New York – you will be able to claim your prize at one of the fifteen NY Lottery Regional Customer Service Centers or by mail.
If you have won over US$ 500,000 or a NY Powerball jackpot prize – you can again claim at one of the NYLottery Regional Customer Service Centers and your claim will be sent to the Prize Payment Unit in Schenectady for payment.
