NJ Lottery Mega Millions
The New Jersey Lottery is 1 of 46 US District & State Lotteries & that offer the huge Mega Millions game – in this case the New Jersey Mega Millions – as part of its overall portfolio of lottery games.
The Mega Millions is a Multi-State USA Lottery that is run and operated by the Mega Millions Consortium
– who administer and syndicate the game across the USA and is one of
the largest lottery games in the world – having produced a massive world
record jackpot of an incredible US$ 656 MILLION in March 2012. This jackpot was shared between 3 Mega Millions tickets from Illinois, Kansas and Maryland and stands as the 2nd biggest jackpot ever won in the history of jackpot lottery games around the world.
The very first Mega Millions draw took place on May 17th 2002 with 6 USA Lottery companies taking part who were all members of the Mega Millions Consortium.
The game changed its name and format from the Big Game which started on August 31st 1996. Upon this change – 2 further State Lottery companies joined and many more were to follow.
The NJ Mega Millions was first sold on May 17th 2002 taking part in the very first Mega Millions draw – since the NJ Lottery had already been selling the Mega Millions predecessor – the Big Game – having become the 7th member of the Big Game consortium in May 1999.
NJ Mega Millions – How it Works
The New Jersey Mega Millions works in exactly the same way as the Mega Millions game works in all the States and Districts in the US that offer the game.
Jackpots start off at US$ 40 MILLION and ROLLOVER after each draw when the top prize is not won – making for some enormous jackpot figures that can be won on the NJ Mega Millions.
6 numbers are drawn in total for the New Jersey Lottery Mega Millions from 2 separate drawing machines – firstly 5 numbers from 70 white balls are drawn and then 1 number (the MEGAball) is drawn from 25 gold balls.
Draws for the Mega Millions NJ take place twice every week on Tuesdays and Fridays at 11.00pm EST.
MEGAPLIER…
Many USA Lottery companies that offer the Mega Millions game also offer the option of playing using a Mega Millions MEGAPLIER.
This is where in addition to the 6 Mega Millions numbers drawn a further number is drawn – the MEGAPLIER number – using a Random Number Generator…
This separate MEGAPLIER prize multiplier number drawn will be either 2, 3, 4 or 5 – and is there to give players of the MegaMillions a chance to increase their winnings on all levels of the prize structure apart from the MegaMillions jackpot itself.
MEGAPLIER enables players to multiply their winnings on these levels by 2x, 3x, 4 or 5x – greatly increasing the amount they can walk away with.
If a player matches the 5 main Mega Millions numbers, for example, playing with the MEGAPLIER add-on – and a MEGAPLIER number of 5 is drawn – the second tier Mega Millions prize of US$ 1 MILLION would be multiplied by x5 and they could win US$ 5 MILLION.

The aim when your are playing is to correctly select as many of the Mega Millions winning prize numbers as possible – and with a total of 9 different ways in which you can win on the NJ Mega Millions – you have a great chance of winning a prize.
There are principally 4 ways you can play the NJ Mega Millions…
1. Pick 5 of your own main (white ball) numbers from 1 to 70 plus your 1 Mega Ball (gold ball) number from 1 to 25.
2. Pick 5 of your own main (white ball) numbers from 1 to 70 and use the
Quick Pick option to let the computer choose your Mega Ball (gold ball)

NJ Mega Millions – Record Jackpots
The biggest jackpot won on the NJ Lottery Mega Millions so far has been the US$ 258 Million claimed on September 16th 2005 by Helen and Harold Lerner from Rutherford. This win is still the largest ever in NJ Mega Millions history and also in the history of the NJ Lottery itself.
The 2nd biggest win on the NJ Mega Millions to date has been the amazing US$ 216 Million won by 10 co-workers from Chubb Commercial Insurance in Whitehouse Station on March 3rd 2009.
The 3rd largest NJ Mega Millions win was on March 6th 2007 when Elaine and Harold “Barry” Messner from Cape May County, NJ scooped US$ 195 Million. This was half of what was the world’s largest ever lottery jackpot win at the time – an incredible US$ 390 Million – the other half having been won on a Georgia Mega Millions ticket.
The 4th biggest NJ Mega Millions jackpot win to date was won by Sundel Judson from Cliffside Park on July 16th 2002 when the top prize stood at a fantastic US$ 165 Million.
The 5th biggest win to date on the New Jersey Mega Millions was another huge jackpot of US$ 126 Million on July 22nd 2008 and won by the Lopes family from Union County.
There have been many other jackpot wins on the NJ Lottery Mega Millions in addition to these top 5.
NJ Mega Millions – How Prizes are Paid
If you have won a New Jersey MegaMillions jackpot – you will be able to claim your prize as either a cash lump sum or as an annuity payment – you will need to make this life-changing choice within 60 days of making your claim.
If you choose the annuity option – your NJ MegaMillions winnings will be paid to you annually over a 30 year period.
For all prizes on the NJ Mega Millions – you will have 365 days from the date of the draw taking place – to make your claim before your NJ Mega Millions ticket will become invalid.
If your win on the MegaMillions NJ is up to US$ 599.50 – you will be able to claim your winnings at any of the NJLottery retailers.
If you’ve had a win of more than US$ 599.50 on the Mega Millions NJ you will be able to claim your prize at an NJ Lottery retailer or at the NJLottery Headquarters in Lawrenceville using a claim form.
If you have won a Mega Millions NJ Jackpot – you will need to claim your prize at the New Jersey Lottery Headquarters in Lawrenceville.
