"Netherlands Lottery including Lotto NL, Staatsloterij & EuroJackpot"
EuroJackpot € 18,000,000
The history of Netherlands Lotto games date right back to April 4th 1726 when Generaliteitsloterij – the Generality Lottery – was first formed to raise funds for the national treasury.
In 1848 the name of the Generaliteitsloterij was ammended to the Nederlandse Staatsloterij – the Dutch State Lottery – and still remains today, the oldest Netherlands Lottery company to exist.
A 2nd Netherlands gaming company was formed after the Royal Dutch Football Association had requested permission from the government to organise Toto games with the aim of raising money for its football clubs. Therefore on February 24th 1957 Nationale Toto – National Toto – was launched by the Dutch government.
The Toto was originally run by KNVB but on November 1st 1961 a new Netherlands Lottery law was passed with a view to adding Netherlands Lotto games in the future and the new company – Stichting de Nationale Sporttotalisator – was duly formed.
In 1974 the game that we know today – the Nederlandse Loterij or Netherlands Lotto – was introduced and quickly became the primary offering in the Lottery Netherlands portfolio of games.
In 1992 the Nederlandse Staatsloterij ceased to be owned by the Dutch government and was then taken over by the independent company called Stichting Exploitatie Nederlandse Staatsloterij.
