North Dakota Lottery Mega Millions
The North Dakota Lottery is 1 of 46 US State & District Lotteries that offer the Mega Millions game – in this case the North Dakota Mega Millions – as part of its overall portfolio of lottery games.
Mega Millions is a huge Multi-State USA Lottery that is operated and run by the Mega Millions Consortium – who administer and syndicate the game across the USA and is one of the largest lottery games in the world – having produced a massive world record jackpot of an incredible US$ 656 MILLION in March 2012. The very first Mega Millions draw took place on May 17th 2002 with 6 USA Lottery companies taking part who were all members of the Mega Millions Consortium.
The game had changed its name and format from the Big Game which had first started back on August 31st 1996. Upon this change – 2 further State Lottery companies joined and more would follow.
Lottery tickets for the North Dakota Mega Millions were first sold on January 31st 2010 when the Multi State Lottery Association (MUSL) who run the Powerball game – of which the ND Lottery is a member – entered into a cross-selling agreement with the Mega Millions consortium – allowing the sales of Mega Millions in Powerball states and Powerball in Mega Millions states.
ND Mega Millions – How it Works
The North Dakota Mega Millions lottery works in precisely the same way that the Mega Millions game works in all the States and Districts in the US that offer the game.
Jackpots start off at US$ 40 MILLION and ROLLOVER after each draw when the top prize is not won – making for some enormous jackpot figures.
6 numbers are drawn in total for the North Dakota Lottery Mega Millions from 2 separate drawing machines – firstly 5 numbers from 70 white balls are drawn and then 1 number (the MEGAball) is drawn from 25 gold balls.
Draws for the North Dakota Mega Millions Lottery take place twice every week on Tuesdays and Fridays at 10.00pm CST (9.00pm MST).
In addition to the 6 Mega Millions numbers drawn – a further number is drawn – using a Random Number Generator…the Mega Millions MEGAPLIER number…

With MEGAPLIER – you are able to multiply your winnings on these levels by 2x, 3x, 4x or 5x – greatly increasing the amount you can walk away with.
If a player matches the 5 main Mega Millions numbers playing with the MEGAPLIER add-on – and a MEGAPLIER number of 5 is drawn – the second tier prize of US$ 1 MILLION would be multiplied by x5 and they could win US$ 5 MILLION.
ND Mega Millions – How to Play
The aim when you are playing is to correctly select as many of the Mega Millions winning prize numbers as possible – and with up to 9 different ways in which you can win on the North Dakota Mega Millions – you have a great chance of winning a prize.
There are 4 main ways you can play the ND Mega Millions…
1. Pick 5 of your own main (white ball) numbers from 1 to 70 plus your 1 Mega Ball (gold ball) number from 1 to 25.
2. Pick 5 of your own main (white ball) numbers from 1 to 70 and use the Quick Pick option to let the computer choose your Mega Ball (gold ball)
number for you from 1 to 25 – using a lotto number picker / random number generator.
3. Use the Quick Pick option to let the computer pick your 5 main (white ball) numbers from 1 to 70 using a random number generator – and then pick your own Mega Ball (gold ball) number from 1 to 25.
4. Use the Quick Pick option available to let the computer choose both your 5 main (white ball) numbers from 1 to 70 and also your 1 Mega Ball (gold ball) number from 1 to 25 using its random number generator.

MEGAPLIER…
For just an extra dollar – you can choose to increase your Mega Millions ND winnings on all levels except the jackpot – by adding the MEGAPLIER when playing the North Daokta Mega Millions.
If your chosen North Dakota Mega Millions numbers match the Mega Millions winning numbers on any of these prize levels – you immediately increase your winnings by either 2, 3, 4 or 5 times – depending on what Mega Millions MEGAPLIER number was drawn.

ND Mega Millions – Biggest Winners
The biggest win on the North Dakota Mega Millions to date has been a Mega Millions 2nd prize of US$ 250,000 won by the First Community Credit Union Group of 19. These work colleagues from Jamestown successfully matched all 5 of the main Mega Millions winning numbers in the draw on May 18th 2010.
We are still awaiting the first Mega Million Jackpot win to occur in the State of North Dakota and when it happens we will write about it here.
ND Mega Millions – How Prizes are Paid
If you have won an North Dakota Mega Millions jackpot – you will be able to claim your prize as either a cash lump sum or as an annuity payment – you will need to make this important choice within 60 days of making your claim.
If you choose the annuity option – your North Dakota Mega Millions winnings will be paid to you annually over a 30 year period.
For all prizes on the North Dakota Lottery Mega Millions – you will have 180 days from the date of the draw taking place – to make your claim before your Powerball ticket will become invalid.
If your win on the ND Mega Millions Lottery is up to US$ 599 – you will be able to claim your winnings at any North Dakota Lottery retailer or by mail.
