Loto Quebec – Quebec 49
Loto-Quebec is an agency operated by the Quebec government that develops and runs lottery games in the Canadian province of Quebec.
The present Quebec Lottery origins go way back to December 1969 when Canadian lotteries were permitted by a change to The Criminal Code of Canada. As a result of this, Loto-Quebec was formed, becoming the very first lottery corporation in Canada and only the 3rd in the whole of North America. The first Loto-Quebec lottery draw took place on March 14th 1970 – the game being L’Inter Loto that had a jackpot of $125,000.
Since those beginnings, Loto Quebec has expanded from public lotteries into running hotel and restaurant services as well as casinos, bingo activities and video lotteries to name a few.
Loto-Quebec has many lottery games on offer including the country-wide Lotto 649 & Lotto Super 7, its own in-province games of Astro, Jour de Paye, Tango, Triplex, La Quotidienne, La Poule aux Oeufs d’Or, Roue de Fortune, Multi-Millions, Banca, La Mini, Mise-O-Jeu, scratch-cards plus its premier lotto game of Quebec 49 that we shall be taking a closer look at here…
Interprovincial Lottery Corporation
The Interprovincial Lottery Corporation is based in Toronto, Ontario and is made up of 5 lottery commissions from the various Canadian provinces and these 5 Canadian lottery companies jointly own the ILC.
The provincial Canadian lottery companies that make up the ILC are the BC Lottery, Atlantic Lottery Corporation, the Ontario Lottery and Gambling Corporation, Loto Quebec and the Western Canada Lottery Corporation.
The ILC was created in 1976 by these provincial Canadian lotto companies to oversee and operate country-wide lottery games right across Canada and today it operates the 2 massive Canadian Lotteries – Lotto 649 & Lotto Super 7 as well as the Millionaire Life game.
Each provincial Canadian lottery company, such as Loto-Quebec, is responsible for marketing the national ILC games of Lotto 649 & Lotto Super 7 within their own province.
Quebec 49 – Overview
Quebec 49 is the traditional draw-style, pick six lotto game of the Loto Quebec Corporation. It is the Loto-Quebec flagship game and is the Quebec-only lottery that gives you the chance to win $2 million for just a dollar.
Quebec 49 was launched by Loto-Quebec on October 1st 1997.
The Quebec 49 lotto uses a matrix of 6/49 and Loto Quebec makes the draw twice per week on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10.30pm Quebec time in Montreal.
The jackpot that you can win on the Quebec 49 lotto is $2 million. Unlike some Canadian lotteries and many of the USA Lottery games, the Quebec 49 jackot doesn’t roll over if the tip prize is not won. The top prize remains at $2 million.
This is because, naturally, the Quebec 49 game has a smaller number of players than the country-wide games of Lotto 649 and Lotto Super 7, so to ensure a $2 million jackpot for every draw for a Quebec-only game means that Loto Quebec needs to cap the Jackpot at $2 million.
We are happy to have reviewed the Quebec 49 lottery and would recommend giving it a go to try out your luck – first of all, though, take a look at how it works below…
How It Works…
The Loto Quebec – Quebec 49 – uses what’s known as a 6/49 matrix - which means that when playing the Quebec49, you need to select 6 numbers from a pool of numbers from 1 to 49 – if you match all 6 numbers drawn then you will be a jackpot winner.
As well as the 6 main numbers, a 7th number is drawn. This is the bonus number and is drawn after the 6 main numbers.
In addition to the jackpot itself, there are 5 other ways in which you can win on the Quebec 49 game - with prizes to be won if you match either 5 main numbers plus the bonus number, 5 main numbers, 4 main numbers, 3 main numbers or even just 2 main numbers plus the bonus number.
A “Quick Pick” facility is available when playing the Quebec 49 - very much the same as the “Lucky Dip” or “Easy Pick” option that is used in the UK National Lottery or Europe’s Euro-Millions or many other Canadian Lottery & USA lottery games – which means that you can ask the lottery retailer or computer to randomly select all your Quebec lottery numbers for you.
So, playing the Quebec 49 is simple…just select your own 6 numbers or request them to be randomly generated for you by using the “Quick Pick” option.
The cost of playing the Quebec49 is just $1 CAD per 6 number selection.
Random Number Generator
Unlike many of the USA & Canadian lotteries today that use a Random Number Generator (RNG) to make their draws, Loto Quebec still uses the traditional method of a single ball machine and numbered lottery balls to draw their Quebec 49 lottery game.
Who Can Play?
Similar to the majority of Canada lotto & USA Lotto games - previously only citizens living in Quebec itself were allowed to play in any of the Loto Quebec games including the Quebec 49. You used to have to purchase your Quebec 49 tickets from an authorized retailer based in Quebec itself.
Nowadays, though, with a good number of online lottery ticket sales agencies around the world - such as TheLotter - who are both authorized and genuine - you are able to select your Quebec 49 numbers online and purchase your tickets without worrying about where in the world you may live.
This is great news of course if you live outside of Canada and Quebec but want to play this lottery and ensure your entry into the next draw or just want to have the convenience and ease of being able to buy lottery tickets online.
Once you have entered into the draw, you can then easily check the Loto Quebec results online to see how you have done and to find out if you have become one of the lucky winners.
Like nearly all of the other USA & Canada lotteries, you will need to be 18 years of age to be eligible to purchase a ticket for any of the Loto-Quebec games including the Quebec49.

How Are Jackpots Paid?

This differs slightly from many USA lotteries where winners can chose either a cash lump sum or annuity option.
If your Quebec Lottery win is up to $600 you will be able to claim your prize from any of the Quebec Lottery retailers across the province.
If your win is more than $600 then you will need to make your claim by completing the short questionnaire on the claim form and then mail this to the Loto-Quebec headquarters.
Similarly, if you win a Quebec 49 jackpot, you will need to make your claim at the Quebec Lottery Headquarters by mailing them the completed questionnaire attached to the claim form.
If you win any prize on the BC Lottery – BC49 - you will have up to 1 year from the date printed on the ticket to claim your prize before your winning ticket becomes invalid.
Of course, if you play lottery online, whatever the size of your win, your lottery ticket sales agent will take care of all these details for you, so you needn’t be concerned if you use TheLotter or any other reputable company.
How The Province Benefits…
Much of the revenue generated from Loto Quebec lottery games is paid over to the provincial government for use within Quebec.
Also, Loto-Quebec helps causes related to people with gambling problems by funding a program for the treatment and prevention of compulsive gambling.
It also sponsors numerous events throughout the communities including a great annual fireworks competition held each year in Quebec City.
