KY Mega Millions – Mega Millions KY
The Kentucky Lottery is 1 of 46 US State Lotteries & District Lotteries that offer the Mega Millions game – in this case the Kentucky Mega Millions – as part of its overall portfolio of lottery games.
The Mega Millions is a Multi-State USA Lottery that is run and operated by the Mega Millions Consortium – who administer and syndicate the game across the USA and is one of the largest lottery games in the world – having produced a world record jackpot in March 2012 of a huge US$ 656 MILLION. This huge sum was shared between 3 winning Mega Millions tickets from Illinois, Kansas and Maryland and stands as the 2nd biggest jackpot ever won in the history of jackpot lottery games anywhere in the world.
The very first Mega Millions draw took place on May 17th 2002 with 6 USA Lottery companies taking part who were all members of the Mega Millions Consortium.
The game had changed its name and format from the Big Game which had first started back on August 31st 1996. Upon this change – 2 further State Lottery companies joined and more would follow.
The KY Mega Millions was first sold on January 31st 2010 when the Multi State Lottery Association (MUSL) who run the Powerball game – of which the Kentucky Lottery is a member – entered into a cross-selling agreement with the Mega Millions consortium – allowing the sales of Mega Millions in Powerball states and Powerball in Mega Millions states.
Kentucky Mega Millions – How it Works...
The Kentucky Mega Millions works in exactly the same way as the Mega Millions game works in all the States and Districts in the US that offer the game.
Jackpots start off at US$ 40 MILLION and ROLLOVER after each draw when the top prize is not won – making for some enormous jackpot figures.
6 numbers are drawn in total for the Kentucky MegaMillions from 2 separate drawing machines – firstly 5 numbers from 70 white balls are drawn and then 1 number (the MEGAball) from 25 gold balls.
Draws for the KY Mega Millions take place twice every week on Tuesdays and Fridays at 11.00pm EST (10.00pm CST).
In addition to the 6 Mega Millions numbers drawn – a further number is drawn – using a Random Number Generator…the Mega Millions MEGAPLIER number…
MEGAPLIER…
This separate MEGAPLIER prize multiplier number drawn will be either 2, 3, 4 or 5 – and is there to give players of the KY Mega Millions a chance to increase their winnings on all levels of the prize structure apart from the KY Mega Millions jackpot itself.
With MEGAPLIER – you are able to multiply your winnings on these levels by 2x, 3x, 4x or 5x – greatly increasing the amount you can walk away with.
If a player matches the 5 main Mega Millions numbers playing with the MEGAPLIER add-on – and a MEGAPLIER number of 5 is drawn – the second tier prize of US$ 1 MILLION would be multiplied by x5 and they could win US$ 5 MILLION.
Kentucky Mega Millions – How to Play...
The aim when you are playing is to correctly select as many of the Mega Millions winning prize numbers as possible – and with as many as 9 different ways in which you can win on the Kentucky Mega Millions – you have a great chance of winning a prize.
There are mainly 4 ways you can play the KY Mega Millions…
1. Pick 5 of your own main (white ball) numbers from 1 to 70 plus your 1 Mega Ball (gold ball) number from 1 to 25.
2. Pick 5 of your own main (white ball) numbers from 1 to 70 and use the Quick Pick option to let the computer choose your Mega Ball (gold ball) number for you from 1 to 25 – using a lotto number picker / random number generator.
3. Use the Quick Pick option to let the computer pick your 5 main (white ball) numbers from 1 to 70 using a random number generator – and then pick your own Mega Ball (gold ball) number from 1 to 25.
4. Use the Quick Pick option available to let the computer choose both your 5 main (white ball) numbers from 1 to 70 and also your 1 Mega Ball (gold ball) number from 1 to 25 using its random number generator.

MEGAPLIER…
For just an extra dollar – you can choose to increase your KY Mega Millions winnings on all levels except the jackpot – by adding the MEGAPLIER when playing the Kentucky Mega Millions.
If your chosen KY Mega Millions numbers match the Mega Millions winning numbers on any of these prize levels – you immediately increase your winnings by either 2, 3, 4 or 5 times – depending on what Mega Millions MEGAPLIER number was drawn.
If you play Mega Millions with MEGAPLIER and you are lucky enough to correctly select the 5 main Mega Millions numbers and a MEGAPLIER number of 5 is drawn – the second tier Mega Millions prize of US$ 1 MILLION will be increased by 5x and you would walk away with US$ 5 MILLION.

Kentucky Mega Millions – Biggest Winners...
Even though the Kentucky Lottery has only been selling KY Mega Millions tickets since January 31st 2010 – there have already been some big Kentucky Mega Millions winners.

Kentucky Mega Millions – How Prizes are Paid
If you have won a Kentucky Mega Millions jackpot – you will be able to claim your prize as either a cash lump sum or as an annuity payment – you will need to make this vital choice within 60 days of the date of your claim.
If you choose the annuity option – your Kentucky Mega Millions winnings will be paid to you annually over a 30 year period.
For all Kentucky Mega Millions prizes – you will have 180 days from the date of the draw taking place – to make your claim before your Mega Millions ticket will become invalid.
If your win on the Kentucky Mega Millions is up to US$ 600 – you will be able to claim your winnings at any KYLottery retailer.
If you’ve had a win of between US$ 600 & US$ 5,000 on the Kentucky Mega Millions – you will be able to claim your prize from a KY Lottery cashing agent or by mailing your claim form & ticket to the Kentucky Lottery Corportion.
If you have won between US$ 5,001 & US$ 25,000 on the KY Mega Millions – you can claim your prize from certain Kentucky State Lottery regional offices.
Should you win a prize of more than US$ 25,000 on the Kentucky MegaMillions– or a KY Mega Millions jackpot – you will need to make your claim at the headquarters of the KentuckyLottery in Louisville.
