"EuroMillions Rules Info. to help you when playing the Euro Lotto"
Current Jackpot € 65,000,000 / £ 77,000,000
As the EuroMillions is such a huge lottery and has such a large player base right across Europe and the rest of the world – we have decided to incorporate a dedicated section here on the more fundamental and important of the Euro Millions rules affecting you when you play the EuroMillions Lottery.
Of course it would be beyond the scope of this website to cover every single rule that is pertinent to the Euro Lottery – for the complete list of Euro Millions Rules you will need to visit the official Euro Lotto website for the country that you reside in or intend to buy lottery tickets from.
Having said that, we think it only right that we should look at the basics here and provide a broad understanding of the Euro Lotto and the things that you really do need to know about the Euro Millions game.
Ok, so the main aim here, we know, is to win the lottery – preferably in a big way – when we take part in the EuroMillions draw.
Wouldn’t it be a crying shame if we did correctly pick the winning Euro Millions numbers but found that we were unable to claim our Euro Millions prizes due to the fact that we were in a different country to where we actually purchased our EuroMillions tickets...
Yes, it is important to note that if you are a Euro Millions winner – you MUST claim your Euro Lotto prizes in the SAME country where you bought your EuroMillions tickets.
So, should you be abroad on holdiday/vacation or business – for example – you will need to check your EuroMillions numbers against the Euro Millions results BEFORE you return home and – if you are a EuroMillions winner – claim your Euro Lotto prize BEFORE you leave the country in which you bought your EuroMillions Tickets.
It would be such a shock to miss out on what could be a truly massive Euro Millions Jackpot simply by misunderstanding what is one of the basic Euro Millions rules.
This is one of the EuroMillions rules that has to be in place due to the fact that the EuroMillion game is not particular to one country alone but stretches across many countries in Europe and each of those countries has its own pool of money to draw from should the EuroMillions jackpot or any of the many other Euro Lotto prizes be won within its borders.
Some exciting changes to the
EUROMILLIONS took place on Sept. 24th 2016.
The starting jackpot has been increased to €17 Million / £14 Million Euro Millions "Lucky Stars" now drawn from 1 to 12 and not 1 to 11 More frequent rollover draws producing a BIGGER EuroMillions Jackpot EuroMillions jackpot cap can remain at €190 Million for up to 5 draws EuroMillions Superdraw starting jackpot increased to €130 Million 2 Extra UK Millionaire Maker draws per week meaning 4 per week in total €1 Million "The Million" EuroMillions Raffle introduced in Spain on Fridays EuroMillions Millionaire draw several times per year with 25 x €1 Million |
This is another of the numerous EuroMillions rules that we believe is so important to be aware of that we felt it had to be included here.
To put it simply – when you buy lottery tickets for the European Lottery – EuroMillions – keep them in a safe place as if you lose them, your Euro Millions prizes can be claimed by somebody else!
It is true that the operators of the Euro Millions – Euro Lotto – game will accept no responsibility should you mislay your EuroMillions tickets – this goes for Camelot in the UK and the Euro Million operators for the other participating member countries.
If you should buy EuroMillions tickets and then lose them, it is perfectly legal for someone ELSE to claim what should be YOUR EuroMillions prizes if they subsequently find your lost Euro Lotto tickets and hand them in.
The Euro Millions rules state clearly that it is the person who actually hands in the tickets that is entitled to claim whatever EuroMillions prizes are due and it is the ticket holder who is deemed to be the lawful owner – not necessarily the person who purchased the EuroMillions tickets.
So, please don’t lose your EuroMillions tickets as – once again – you could so easily miss out on some huge Euro Millions rollover jackpot just because someone else has been lucky enough to find the Euro Lotto ticket that you have mislaid.
There have been slight changes to the Euro Lotto over the years with the rules on what happens when the EuroMillions Rollover occurs.
For many years there was no limit at all – the Euro Lotto was allowed to rollover for as many times as it took for the correct Euro Lottery numbers to be correctly selected and the much wished for Euro Millions Rollover jackpot figure to be won.
This was changed after the Euro Millions jackpot rolled over an amazing 11 times and created one of the largest Euro Millions prizes which was eventually won on February 3rd 2006.
Since that huge 2006 jackpot win, it was decided to allow the Euro Lotto to rollover up to a maximum of 12 consecutive weeks and if the winning lottery numbers were still not selected then the Euro Millions rollover jackpot prize would “roll down” – so to speak – and be shared amongst the next winning prize tier of the European Lottery that week.
This next EuroMillions prize tier would be most likely to be the one that had correctly selected the 5 main Euro Millions Numbers plus 1 of the Lucky Star numbers.
So, even though the Euro Lotto operators decided to put a cap on the number of times the European Lottery can rollover – there are some truly huge EuroMillions rollover games that take place and some massive EuroMillions jackpot prizes that are regularly won – making it one of the largest tax free, lump sum lotteries in the world.
With the EuroMillions rule changes of September 24th 2016 – the EuroMillions rollover can continue right up to the jackpot cap figure (see below) and stay at that level for up to 5 drawings.
You can check the latest Euro Millions Rollover Jackpot figure at any time by going to our dedicated Rollover page.
The Euro Millions rules relating to the jackpot cap were changed on November 7th 2009.
It was decided that the Euro Millions jackpot could continue to rollover if not won until it reached or went higher than €185 Million. At this point the jackpot would remain at €185 Million and any prize money over and above this figure that rolled over would then be added to the prize fund for the next winning Euro Millions prize level.
After the capped EuroMillions jackpot of €185 Million had been won – the upper limit would rise by €5 Million creating a new jackpot cap of €190 Million and then €195 Million, etc.
On January 12th 2012 the organisers of EuroMillions altered this ruling once again – this time setting a permanent jackpot cap of €190 Million.
If a capped jackpot of €190 Million is not won after two draws – the Euro Millions prize money will then be distributed amongst the EuroMillions winners on the next winning level.
EuroMillions rule changes that took force with effect from September 24th 2016 saw another alteration to the behaviour of the jackpot cap...
The Euromillions jackpot cap is still a whopping €190 Million but if this level is reached – the jackpot can remain at this incredibly high level for up to 5 draws – meaning that there could be 4 rollover draws at this upper limit of €190 Million before the prize would then roll down to the next winning prize level if not won –.
As with the majority of lottery games around the world, the age at which you are legally allowed to buy lottery tickets for the EuroMillions – Euro Lotto – is the standard 18 years of age.
Things are slightly different for Euro Millions players in the U.K., however, where the legal age at which you are allowed to play the Euro Millions game is lower at just 16 years of age meaning that a wider section of the population become Euro Lotto players.
Having covered the most important of the Euro Millions rules, it is well worth mentioning that if you play EuroMillions online you will not have to be concerned with the vast majority of them.
