The Arkansas State Lottery – or the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery to give the organization its full and correct title – was created when a constitutional amendment was approved by 63% of the State’s voters back on November 4th 2008.

The Mega Millions is a Multi-State USA Lottery that is run and operated by the Mega Millions Consortium – who administer and syndicate the game across the USA and is one of the largest lottery games in the world – having produced a massive world record jackpot of an incredible US$ 656 MILLION on March 30th 2012. This jackpot was shared between 3 winning Mega Millions tickets from Illinois, Kansas and Maryland and is the 2nd largest lottery jackpot of all time to date.
The very first Mega Millions draw took place on May 17th 2002 with 6 USA Lottery companies taking part who were all members of the Mega Millions Consortium.
The game had changed its name and format from the Big Game which had started on August 31st 1996. Upon this change – 2 further State Lotteries joined and many more were to follow.

In the Spring – a State poll indicates that almost 2/3s of the adult population in Arkansas wished to have their own State Lottery.
It is put forward by the Lt.Governor Bill Halter that having a Lottery in Arkansas will provide another valuable way of raising money for scholarships to college.
On a November 4th ballot – voters in Arkansas approve a constitutional amendment to have a lottery in Arkansas with 63% voting in favour – and the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery is created.
2009
July 1st sees the Arkansas State Lottery vote to join the Multi State Lottery Association that runs the multi-state USA Lottery games of POWERBALL. The Arkansas Lottery becomes the 33rd US State Lottery to join the MUSL.
The very first lottery tickets are put on sale by the Arkansas State Lottery on September 28th. These are Scratch off tickets for four different lottery games – ARKANSAS RICHES at US$ 2 a ticket, plus 3 TIMES LUCKY at US$ 1 a ticket, JUMBO BUCKS at US$ 2 a ticket and $100,000 CASH BONANZA at US$ 5 a ticket.
On October 9th an agreement is made between the Mega Millions Consortium and the MUSL – Multi-State Lottery Association – to allow the cross-sales of MEGA MILLIONS Tickets within states that offer the POWERBALL game and the sale of POWERBALL tickets within states that offer the MEGA MILLIONS game. Though now a member of the MUSL – the Arkansas Lottery has yet to begin selling POWERBALL Tickets – but come January will be selling tickets for both the MEGA MILLIONS and POWERBALL.
On October 20th – the Arkansas Lottery introduce 4 new Scratch off games – MONEY BAGS at US$1 a ticket, CRAZY 8’s at US$ 2 a ticket, the US$2 MONEY MADNESS and SUPER 7’s at US$ 5 a ticket.
Arkansas POWERBALL tickets are first sold on October 31st. The POWERBALL game has gone through various changes since its inception in April 1992 and the double matrix is now changed to 5/59 + 1/39. Jackpots commence at US$ 20 Million and draws take place at from Orlando’s Universal Studios in Florida.
November 4th sees the first POWERBALL draw take place including players of the Arkansas Lottery.
The Arkansas Lottery bring out 4 new Scratch off games on November 10th – CANDY CANE CASH at US$ 1 a ticket, the festive STOCKING STUFFER at US$ 2 a ticket, $50,000 HOLIDAY CASH at US$ 3 and $500,000 JACKPOT at US$ 10.
Another batch of new Scratch off games are released by the AR Lottery on December 1st – BEAT THE DEALER at US$ 1, plus ALL THE MONEY for US$ 2, WILD CHERRY DOUBLER for US$ 2 a ticket and MONEY MANIA at US$ 5 a ticket.
December 14th sees the Arkansas State Lottery introduce its first in-house, online, numbers game – CASH 3. Arkansas Lottery players choose 3 numbers and can win up to US$ 500 with draws taking place Monday through Saturday at both 12.59pm and 6.59pm and Sundays at 6.59pm.
2010
Just under 2 months after selling its first POWERBALL tickets – the Arkansas Lottery has its first winner of an AR POWERBALL jackpot prize on January 2nd – when a lucky winner scoops a cool US$ 25 Million. This is currently the largest ever prize to be won in Arkansas Scholarship Lottery history.
The Arkansas Lottery introduce 4 more new Scratch off games on January 5th – CASH ON THE SPOT for US$ 1 a ticket, plus the $100 WINNER at US$ 2 per ticket, CUPID CASH at US$ 2 and also the THE PRICE IS RIGHT at US$ 5.
On January 31st the AR Lottery sells its first lottery tickets for the national MEGA MILLIONS game – as a result of the recently made cross-selling agreement between the Mega Millions Consortium and the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL) – back in October 2009.
The first MEGA MILLIONS draw to include the Arkansas Lottery takes place on February 2nd.
Also on February 2nd – the Arkansas Lottery bring out more new Scratch off games. LUCKY LOOT for US$ 1 a ticket, $20,000 TAXES PAID at US$ 2 a ticket, FORTUNE COOKIE at US$ 3 and $250,000 CASH CLUB at US$ 10.
Further Scratch off games are brought out by the Arkansas State Lottery on March 2nd – BLACKJACK for US$ 1 a ticket, plus the 10K PAYDAY at US$ 2 a ticket, FIND THE 9’s at US$ 2 and $100,000 TAXES PAID at US$ 5.
Another Scratch off game is introduced by the Arkansas Lottery on March 3rd – HIGH STAKES costing US$ 2 per ticket.
June 1st sees the first big win on the AR MEGA MILLIONS when David Scott from Drasco in Cleburne County wins US$ 500,000 – doubling his prize by playing with the MEGAPLIER multiplier option.
The Arkansas Lottery introduces its second in-house, online, numbers game on July 12th – CASH 4. Arkansas Lottery players choose 3 numbers and can win up to US$ 5,000 with draws taking place Monday through Saturday at both 12.59pm and 6.59pm and Sundays at 6.59pm.
On July 14th – the MILLION DOLLAR RAFFLE game is introduced by the AR Lottery. This raffle is a one-time draw game and a limited number of 500,000 pre-printed tickets go on sale at US$ 10 per ticket. The draw for the raffle is expected to take place on September 9th.
Net proceeds raised by the Arkansas Lottery go right back to the State and benefit the citizens of Arkansas in some very important ways.
